2. What do you want to make sure your audience knows?
About you? You know how people ask you what’s the one thing in the world you would do for free? That’s how I feel about hair care. I can talk about this stuff all day! When I first started blogging I had no idea people would even pay me to write for their sites, let alone a product review. I just really wanted to talk about what I love and offer women advice and solutions. I want to make sure people know my passion for hair care runs deep and it’s more to me than achieving the perfect wash and go or twist out. Ultimately, my goal is to encourage and help women feel good about themselves. Hair care is another form of creative expression for many women, heavily connected to our emotions and how we feel about ourselves.
About your brand? TEXTURES Natural Hair Care is all about providing the best brands that cater to multiple hair types and textures. Trying and finding new hair products can be a daunting task so I’m excited to have a space where women can try various brands and products, probably not found in their local stores, combined with amazing hair education on the blog.
3. What made you decide to begin?
Before I launched the blog, TexturedTalk I spent countless hours reading, researching and buying different products. I also spent a lot of time buying products online from brands that weren’t available at my neighborhood beauty supply store, Sally’s or Target. Eventually I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be cool if I could do my research and shop for all the products I love in the same spot? After going back and forth for about a year, playing around with Amazon affiliates I decided to open my online retail store www.texturesnaturalhaircare.com. I chose this route over drop shipping and the Amazon Affiliate store because I wanted full control of the product selection, shipping, packaging, etc. – not just for the mere sake of control but because I believe those small details elevate the customer experience from good to great. Every purchase comes with a handwritten thank you note and 1-2 product samples. My goal is for you to open your package and be excited! Excited to try your new “toys” as I call them. Easing the process to purchase multiple products from various brands as you navigate your natural hair journey is my #1 goal.
4. What is the motto of your brand?
The brand motto is “All of your favorite products in one place”. TEXTURES aims to be the premier location to support smaller brands with limited distribution as well as a few key larger brands sold in big box stores.
5. Brief background/synopsis on your brand?
TEXTURES Natural Hair Care is a boutique online retailer with a primary focus on natural and organic hair care products committed to giving women access to the best brands and simplifying the shopping process for natural hair care as much as possible. Devoted to changing the standard shopping experience among women of multi-textured hair, TEXTURES Natural Hair Care aims to deliver natural hair education, carry quality hair care products and reduce the shopping hassle between multiple beauty supply stores and independent online brands Several of our brands also cater to relaxed textures as well since we believe “good hair” is healthy hair, regardless of texture. 6. What is the most rewarding part of your career?
The most rewarding part of my business is knowing that I’m doing something I absolutely love. I also work a full time as a senior financial analyst, which correlates to my finance degree. However, my passion is hair care so having something to do outside of my 9-5 routine gives me so much life and keeps me going!
The least rewarding part is seriously when customers are not satisfied with their product purchase. Although I don’t make products personally, each product that is available for sale I’ve done extensive research and know they have rave reviews and quality ingredients from a variety of women and work on a variety of hair textures. So, when something does not work out I’m sad but I understand.
7. Who depends on your success? Who are you doing this for besides yourself?
Besides myself, I aim to be successful in order to be a walking example for my nieces. I don’t have any children and am the youngest of 4 sisters, so now it’s my turn to influence those younger than me and set the example. I want them to know that whatever you set your mind to and are determined to accomplish you can do it, some way somehow. It might take you some time, and it might not be your perfect situation but you must always try. Although I think they aren’t watching (or listening), I know I’m still getting through to them.
8. If you weren’t in your field what would you be doing?
If I didn’t own an online hair care store or run my blog, I would more than likely pursue an entrepreneurship track in the financial services industry. I thought about teaching personal finance and budgeting for millennials at one point but decided to go a different route instead. However, I must say my finance degree really helps when it comes to my business. I already have the upper hand with understanding financial statements which is a blessing!
9. What is going to be your legacy?
I know this is going to sound crazy, but I really don’t know – not at this moment. I have so much more living to do and things to learn about myself and entrepreneurship. I think it would be a little premature to lay out what my legacy will be at 29; however check back with me in about 15 years! 🙂
10. Who is the rock behind your empire?
First and foremost God. I couldn’t do anything without his grace, blessing and my knowing that he will always guide my steps as long as I’m faithful. I probably would have gone crazy by now if it was not for my faith. Second, hands down the rock behind me is boyfriend. He’s my sounding board, strategist, consultant, shipping and handling go-to and just all around amazing partner. He was also the final push that encouraged me to open the online store. As I was worried about everything that could go wrong he made sure I stayed just focused on everything that could go right. I couldn’t have started without him.
11. What projects do you have coming up? What should we be looking out for?
Yes! Right now TEXTURES has 10 brand partners and I am looking to bring on additional brands this spring. Also be on the lookout for the TEXTURES Natural Hair Care brick & mortar store here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area Fall of 2016.
