Being A Vegan Ruined My Skin, Here’s How I Fixed It @PaulasChoice

Vegan ruined my skin

FTC: I partnered with PRIMP + Paula’s Choice to bring you all of this awesome skin care info. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve been a Vegan now for 10 weeks! I can’t believe how time has flown by in this journey and overall it has been an incredibly awesome. I’ve been learning so much about who I am, learning how to cook more meals, and experimenting with different foods. There’s one small teeny tiny aspect of my Vegan lifestyle that is less than stellar: my skin. I knew that in transitioning to Veganism I would go through a period of change, in how I felt, how I looked, and what I ate. I didn’t expect that 10 weeks later, while everything else has pretty much balanced out and become normal, that my skin would still be extremely unpredictable. I started breaking out much more than usual and all in the same area.  It really shouldn’t be a huge surprise to me, I’ve struggled with acne for as long as I can remember. I had severe acne during my adolescent high school years, and my back still faces that situation even as a full blown semi responsible adult.

However my face is my pride and glory because it has consistently bounced back time and time again. I wouldn’t and couldn’t let Veganism ruin me, and I didn’t want to wait for it to balance out on its own. My original skin care regimen wasn’t working anymore and I needed something that would be strong and gentle at the same time.

I was looking into various skin care brands that were animal cruelty free while still being effective and gentle. I have combination skin so anything too strong sends my face into a frenzy, and anything too gentle … also does the same.  I got the opportunity to partner with Paula’s Choice and was weary for two reasons: 1) I didn’t know too much about them/ never tried them 2) I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to find them in stores (I like the convenience of grabbing more if I run out).

Even with slight reservation I decided to give Paula’s Choice a try. I started with my free skin care consultation. Because the brand offers something for everyone whether you’re suffering with acne, rosacea, aging, pores…etc they’ve got something to offer. My consultant asked me thorough questions about my skin, including my current skin care regimen. She listened intently and came up with a regimen for me based on my skin. That put me a little bit more at ease. Knowing that I wasn’t just being told to use everything in a skin care line was an important factor for me.

Sometimes it can be overwhelming when brands throw different products at you with no understanding of what your skin is like or what it reacts to. She also made sure I understood when and how to use each product in order for it to be used correctly and have the best results. Paula’s Choice is committed to customer advocacy, education and helping people find the best products for their skin, which is why they offer everyone a FREE personal skincare consultation. If you can’t get on the phone for a free consultation Paula’s Choice also has a full encyclopedia of advice for every type of skin care concern on their website.  The founder, is all about truth in beauty, skin care, ingredients and proven research.  This article in particular was super informative on the nature of our diets and how it affects our skin.

Being A Vegan Ruined My Skin… Here’s How I Fixed It

Morning/ Daytime Routine: Because of my combination skin I was given a mixed combination of Paula’s Choice lines to help with my skin issues. My morning routine consisted of the three basic skincare steps we are accustomed to: cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Because of my breakouts

Cleanser: Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Oil Reducing Cleanser for normal, oily and combination skin. This cleanser helps to remove excess oil and makeup while still being gentle enough to not aggravate people who have sensitive skin.

Toner: Skin Balancing Pore Reducing Toner that helps prevent the signs of aging, eliminates dry flaky skin, and minimizes the pores on your skin.

2% BHA  Liquid Exfoliant: I’ve never tried a liquid exfoliant before but I was pleasantly surprised for my first try. This exfoliant is effective on all skin types and has salicylic acid as one of the active ingredients to help fight any brewing acne during the day time.

Moisturizer: Paula’s Choice calm line for redness relief with SPF 30. Ladies I cant tell you enough how important it is to moisturize in the day time with a moisturizer that has SPF. It will help prevent the “Cracks” we are trying to avoid as we age.

Evening Routine

Cleanser + Toner: Cleansing and toning in the evening with the same morning products. *Remember I said skin care requires patience and consistency so I was pleased with this recommendation during my consultation.

Moisturizer: Now this is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE part of this skin care regimen and my new favorite Paula’s Choice product. The Paula’s Choice Redness Relief moisturizer for normal to dry skin mixed with 1-3 drops of the Resist C15 Super Booster. This product consists of 15% Vitamin C with Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid. This bad boy is a definite game changer and even though it may seem a bit pricy (48.00 for .67oz) it lasts quite a long time since you are only using a few drops a day. My skin noticeably became brighter, and the spots I had on my face grew fainter. The water light consistency blends well with any moisturizer. The Redness relief moisturizer paired well and didn’t leave any greasy residue behind.

Spot Treatment: The 9% BHA Spot Treatment was used as needed for pesky pimples that popped up or refused to go away. It worked magic over night and didn’t dry out the spot like most spot treatments have done in the past.

I can honestly say that my skin cleared up about 85% of the way in just four weeks. Like I said skin care can be tricky and requires a lot of experimentation yes, but overall patience and persistent consistency. I’m happy I found a routine that works and I’m going to be giving it another 4-6 weeks to see if I can get to 100% improvement (no dark marks left behind). I’m even considering using some of these products on my back to have a similar improvement. The 6 total products I received came to about $200.00 dollars. I know some of you are saying wait… WHAT! But… after speaking with tons of my co workers, and experiencing it first hand high end luxury skin care is expensive and Paula’s Choice offers luxury skin care at much more affordable prices than most. I remember falling in love with an Olive oil moisturizer a few years ago that was no more than 20z and cost $80.00. Needless to say I didn’t repurchase after the initial gift. Affordability is key and I am happy that Paula’s Choice gives that opportunity to those of us who don’t have tons of money to spend towards our face. These are full size products that fall under the $50.00 mark and last 4-8 weeks depending on frequency of use.
