I’ve partnered with Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water to talk about my 5 day Sparkling Detox Challenge. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 

So… you already know I’ll be heading to vacation shortly and this summer has been quite a whirlwind. I’ve tried for the most part to keep up with my workout routine, but everything else has kind of been up in the air. In order to mentally prepare for vacation and for the return back to school in September I decided I need to refocus my energy.

With all of that mental preparation, I figured it was time to physically prepare as well. But not in the way you think. I mentioned a few months ago that I would no longer being going to extreme lengths and measures in order to lose weight. Instead I would go the old fashioned and most effective route: eating clean as much possible, making healthier choices, and working out regularly. This route requires and encompasses a balance of both a mental and physical strength. To jump start this long term journey I decided to do a 5 day Sparkling Detox Challenge.

5 Day Sparkling Detox Challenge

Because the internet is swarming with “health challenges” the first set of questions are always: What do I have to do, what will it cost me, and what do I have to give up. I can’t blame you because those are the questions I ask whenever I have to do anything. And I’ve got all of those answers for you ready and waiting so you can jump into this challenge with me with ease!

What Do I Have To Do: For this 5 day healthy lifestyle challenge you only have to do two things (I’ll be doing a third thing… but it is completely optional)

  1. Ditch All Of Your Usual Beverages: Say what!!! I promise you… this is as hard as the challenge gets! During the five day challenge you are cleansing your body of all of the “drinks” you love. So that means absolutely no soda, juices, coffee, alcohol, or tea. Instead you drink Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water for the entirety of the 5 day challenge. (During this challenge smoothies are considered a food, rather then a beverage so you can absolutely make fresh smoothies if you so choose)

Uhh… but why: Initially I wasn’t a fan of Sparkling Mineral Water. Too fancy for my tastes, and who wants fancy water right? Who cares? And what could really be the benefit besides bubbles. WRONG! Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water packs a punch: with 84mg of calcium, and 26mg of magnesium per 8fl oz your body is being supplied with valuable essential minerals. The presence of these minerals promotes and support healthy function of the body’s systems such as the digestive and immune system. How much water do I need: We always hear 8 glasses a day right? Same concept! In general I always recommend 1.5-2 liters a day. So during out sparkling mineral water detox we’re going to apply that same rule. If you are extremely active/ workout a lot / or you’re pregnant you may want to drink a little more to stay fully hydrated.

2. Make Better Choices without restriction: Say what? This challenge isn’t about focusing on what you can’t have or what you can’t do. Instead it is simply about focusing, continuing, and amplifying the things you already do well. Challenges that focus too closely on so many things that you can’t have or can’t do are usually the challenge that are the easiest to give up on. That is not our focus here. We’ve already given up our sugary drinks in step one… and that’s that done! Now… in step 2 we don’t think about restrictions but about better decision making.

The objective of this challenge is to learn to take simple steps in order to enjoy a more balanced and healthy lifestyle. If you’re already working out 2-3 times a week, try and get to 3-5. If you’re already cooking for your self instead of eating out try a healthier recipe to one of your favorite dishes. Or if you do enjoy heading out to eat, choose a healthier side or meal than you normally would choose. You’re not turning your life upside down that will just make you miserable. Instead you’re incorporating better decisions into a life you’re already living.

3. Journal The Journey (*Optional- But Best Way To Hold Your Self Accountable)- Since I love writing and tracking transitions in life journaling this 5 day journey is a must for me. Though it is not required to participate in the challenge I definitely recommend finding a way to hold your self accountable. The first is with an awesome Facebook group filled with support from others participating in the challenge and top fitness trainer Ariane Hundt. She’ll be in there providing motivational tips, meal ideas, exercise ideas, and snack ideas for the week.
