As many of you know I got my first professional haircut in five years back in September by Vincenzo Stylist. It was then I decided to not only start taking better care of my hair, but to also add hair vitamins into my regular regimen for the next six months. Why you might ask? Well I wanted to see if they would help get my hair back on track from the immense damage I caused by using way too many protein based products. I was facing severe damage and shedding and the only fix was another “big chop”. While I transitioned back in 2012 but growth rate was rather quick, and it slowed down tremendously when I got a bit further along in my natural hair journey.

While I will admit I was being a bit impatient and wanted my hair to grow back as soon as possible, I am thankful that I did decide to take hair vitamins for a few specific reasons. I decided to go with the Mielle Organics brand mostly because they were the only brand I experienced in the past that worked well for my hair and my skin. I broke down the four major brands of hair vitamins here to help you decide which one is really worth your money. I took my first round of Mielle Organics back in April and shared my initial thoughts in my first review.

After the first 30 days I wasn’t focused on length retention, which brought me back to big chopped status. So now that I’ve been steady taking the Mielle Organics Hair Vitamins for the past four months I thought I’d bring you a second review with new thoughts and a new perspective on these pills. If you want to give these pills a try you can get a discount using our code: TRESSES.  So let’s get right into my thoughts on the Mielle Organics hair vitamins.

Hair Length Update: Mielle Organics Hair Vitamins

Brief Overview: Mielle Organics Hair Vitamins possess large amounts of Biotin, that we know because every hair vitamin does. That is not what sets Mielle Organics apart. The main differences between Mielle Organics and their competitors falls down to two things: the price point and their proprietary blend. I am as frugal as they come and the Mielle Organics Hair Vitamins are a few dollars cheaper than their competitors (18.00 dollars compared to 25.00). Their proprietary blend also contains Saw Palmetto and Inositol, two herbs that are important in maintaining hormonal balance for women who suffer from PCOS which I do. That is what made me fall in love with these pills initially. The fact that their blend doesn’t just make into consideration quick rapid hair growth, but the causes that may be inhibiting hair growth in the first place such as hormonal imbalances.

I didn’t measure my hair… and I’ll tell you why. I Photo Sep 24, 7 05 19 PMdidn’t measure my hair because I started out on a tapered cut and my hair was brutally, Mielle organics hair vitaminsterribly damaged even after the cut. (image to the left) My hair was lifeless, and wouldn’t take on a curl pattern no matter what I did to it, or what product I used. So I was taking the hair vitamins to work more from the inside out and help the growth process internally. Which it did drastically! My issues with shedding (which was the reason I event went to get my hair cut) dramatically decreased to almost nothing. (image to the right).

I did change my methods and hair products to match with my moisture driven change in regimen, but I do believe that the Mielle Organics Hair vitamins played a vital part in helping to get rid of a lot of the issues I was initially having with my hair back in September. I was slowly starting to get some definition and shape from my twist outs, and was enjoying my hair cut a bit more. By the time my hair cut was 4 weeks old I was actually able to perm rod (yellow/red perm rods) the sides which I couldn’t do initially because of the nature of the cut. I actually had my best perm rod set ever since I’ve been natural and I find that is because my hair was in one its healthiest states.

But Did My Hair Grow Faster: It’s hard to tell whether my hair grew faster because I was taking the hair vitamins or because I changed my hair care regimen or because I just recently got a huge cut. I don’t necessarily think my hair grew extremely quickly at all. I believe I’m right on track with the healthy hair growth amount of .5-1 inch of hair a month. Some parts of my hair grow quicker than others and that has always been the case. I do however credit the vitamins for helping me with length retention. Because of the huge decrease in shedding and breakage I am able to maintain the length that I am getting so it looks as if my hair is growing faster/bigger rapidly when the truth is I’m just not losing it as quickly either. Below I have a few photos that compare the states of my hair since September to now. Mielle Organics Hair Vitamins

  1. I think it was the product the most your hair usually grows the most without pills is 1/2 inch/month – so you said it was growing an inch a month that is 4inches in 4 months insane! in 3 months your hair would have only grown 1 n 1/2”.

    • I think it could also be because I got a fresh big chop pretty much (tapered cut) that made it grow so quickly because my ends were all fresh and healthy. Not sure but I will definitely keep you posted.
