Natural Hair: TréLuxe Full Line Product Review

I’m not a big fan of doing product reviews, and I must I’ve gotten away from them as of lately because of a few reasons both personal and professional. However I was given the opportunity to review a fairly new line called: TréLuxe. I decided to get on board with reviewing the line for several reasons that I hope come through as a I discuss each specific product in the line. So let me stop babbling and jump right into what you’re here to hear:

Philosophy:  Through its products, community, and initiatives, TréLuxe empowers women to approach life with full confidence; presenting to the world an image that is consistent with each woman’s unique character and personal style. It is our personal passion to inspire modern day women to discover and magnify the true beauty found within, and thereby empower them to inspire others. TréLuxe reaches women from all walks of life who share our commitment to healthy natural beauty, confident self-expression, and social consciousness. To further our mission, we continually support the causes that promote individual growth and local community development. All modern day brands should inspire confidence, be socially conscious, and contribute responsibly to society. These “3 C’s” of the TréLuxe Philosophy provide the foundation for all of our offerings. By empowering women to cultivate beauty from the inside out, we aim to help people everywhere to DEFINE themselves, ENHANCE their lives, and INSPIRE others.

The Good: What I Love About This Brand

Rewards Program: Rewards programs and points always make me happy whether it is from a credit card, shopping at a store frequently…etc. Anything that gives me something in return for spending my money is always right up my alley. TréLuxe offers a rewards program on their website that offers you points with each online purchase. You can use these points for discounts on future purchases or even donate the points to programs that empower at risk girls in self esteem, health, and fitness. I love this idea and it truly fits in with the brand’s philosophy of empowerment.

Products: There were two products that stood out from the crowd in the TréLuxe brand. These two products are the The Curl Supreme Styling Creme and the Untie The Knot Leave in conditioner.

CurlSupreme4-300x300Curl Supreme Styling Creme: The curl supreme styling creme was my favorite product in the line for the first week ( I took about 3 weeks to fully try the entire line). Now it’s my second favorite only falling to second place because of the leave in conditioner’s wonderful job. The styling creme is used for exactly what it states to style your tresses and leave them fully nourished & moisturized while giving your curls a nice pop of definition. I’m not a definition queen but I did have the best day 5 (yeah… day 5 hair) that I’ve ever had in my entire 2.5 years natural. (check out images below). What I love about this product is that there is no potent smell to turn me off from use, there is no residue or flaking that occurs when mixed with other products. I like products that can play nice with other lines because some times I just don’t want to use one line during my wash day. Best part of this product? I do protective style frequently especially during the winter months in NYC so I am absolutely thrilled when I find a styler that is safe to use on both my natural hair and protective style, while still fully performing to its best ability.

The styling creme also boasts of containing some great ingredients that are listed towards the beginning of the list which means it is most potent. (However shea butter and avocado oil are listed several ingredients below)natural-ing-description

Ingredients: Water, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice , Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Cetyl Alcohol (Coconut derived), Propylene Glycol, Lactobacillus/Tomato Fruit Ferment Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Keratin Amino Acids , Acyl Coenzyme A Desaturase, Glyceryl Stearate, Capric/Caprylic Triglycerides (Coconut derived), Prunus Armenciaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Althea Officinalis Root (Marshmallow) Extract, Butryospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Carbomer, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Milk, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Triethanolamine, Squalane (Olive derived), Dehydroxanthan Gum, Emulsifying Wax, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol

UntieTheKnot-300x300Untie The Knot Leave In Conditioner: This is my favorite product in the Tre Luxe line. I am a sucker for a great leave in conditioner because I consider this to be one of my biggest steps/contributors of healthy moisturized hair that I take very seriously in my natural hair regimen. The leave in conditioner is thick with all the slip you could want in a conditioner. My favorite part is… THE SMELL! OMG! My concept on hair products having a fragrance is I need to be in love with it. IF not then I don’t want a fragrance at all, because it is just annoying. However this product smells like all types of cinnamon goodness that had my bathroom smelling amazing on wash day. Paired with the styling creme this conditioner works wonders and got me all the way to day 5 hair without having to recondition, retwist or restyle. A very very rare commodity especially in the frigid weather New York has been experiencing. Another positive: this hair worked amazingly at re-hydrating and refreshing my clip in extensions without having to even add water. That was my main selling point!

Squalane-BotanicalIngredients: Water (Aqua), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Propylene Glycol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Steareth-2, Lactobacillus/Tomato Fruit Ferment Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Keratin Amino Acids , Acyl Coenzyme A Desaturase, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Milk, Squalane (Olive derived), Ulmus Fulva (Slippery Elm) Bark Extract, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol

ReFlex2-300x300TreLuxe also has a Reflex Curl Styling Serum that I mainly used as the step right before the styler to limit frizz. I must admit I wasn’t too sure how to use this product as the directions on the site were a bit confusing. I will be attempting to use it as a styler for my flexi rod set this week! Pictures will be posted on our Instagram soon!

The Bad: What made me think twice

HiDefinition-300x300-1Hi Definition Curl Enhancer: I gave this product a try on three separate occasions and it just refused to work with my hair. This was the first product I tried straight out of the box when I received the Tre Luxe delivery. I used it mid weeks to retwist my hair, and in the morning I was thorough disappointed at the flakage and residue I had on my hair. I tried it again on freshly washed hair to see if perhaps I needed to get rid of some of the product that may have been on my hair. Same result the next day as I took down my twists.  In an attempt to give it a true fair shot I contacted the CEO of Tre Luxe to tell them about my experience and received a quick response (which I truly appreciate and is another plus in the Tre Luxe corner) that told me to add more water to the mix. I did just that and kept in mind that less is always more. Not only did I have the same experience but so did a friend of mine with a completely different regimen and hair texture. At that point I gave up on the product and placed it to the back of my hair product line up under my sink. I am extremely picky when it comes to hair gels and always believe in going the extreme natural route (Aloe Vera Gel or Flax seed gel) so I wasn’t too surprised that this product just didn’t do it for me.

Ingredients: Water, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Propylene Glycol, Carrageenan Gum (Seaweed Extract), Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate-60, Lactobacillus/Tomato Fruit Ferment Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Keratin Amino Acids, Acyl Coenzyme A Desaturase, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, Honey Extract, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Elaesis Guineensis (Palm) Fruit Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) ,Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol

Price: This line is on the pricer side for my liking, however there are a few things you can keep in mind in regards to that. One you are getting the rewards points that you can use for discounts on future purchases (which other pricier lines do not offer to my knowledge). You are also getting quality products with quality ingredients from a smaller line ( and we all know how much I like supporting small business). The last thing I consider with this line is that though the pricing is higher than what I like to pay for in lets say a Sallys, Ulta, or local beauty supply… this product will last you for a while. (maybe not the conditioner… I’m heavy handed on it because I love it) but the other products do not need to be caked on so they will last you 4-5 months depending on frequency of usage.

Overall Feelings: I believe TréLuxe is on their way to becoming a brand that naturalistas will love and trust. While I wish they had more options in products (co wash, deeep conditioner…etc) I do believe I will be making future purchases for the leave in conditioner specifically. I’m also considering purchasing the Cream styler if I can get amazing 5 day hair frequently (I’ll keep you updated in the next month to see how that goes). I rate Tre Luxe a 7/10.  They have great customer service, a great philosophy behind their brand that they truly stand behind, a rewards program that I can totally support. Because I truly loved the leave in conditioner and styling creme… That’s what I want to offer to you!!!!!

Two winners will be selected at random to win a Styler and Leave in conditioner. The stipulations are below! Good luck! Contest ends December 15th
