Where did you grow up?
Curl Luxe I grew up just south of Atlanta, Georgia in a small city called Macon, Ga. Macon is the hometown or the birthplace of many well-known musicians such as Little Richard and Otis Redding to name a few. Macon is also known for the annual Cherry Blossom festival better known as the “Pink Party”.
What do you want to make sure your audience knows?
– About you
Curl Luxe I am a wife, entrepreneur and a student. I am currently attending Mercer University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership. I have been in the retail business for 11 years. I have held several positions from cashier to Project Manager during my career.
About your career? What made you decide to begin?
Curl Luxe The idea for curLUXE Naturals started 6 years ago when I started my natural hair journey. The natural hair market at that time wasn’t as diverse as it is now therefore, I looked to YouTube to find out what products that I should use and how I should care for my hair. Needless to say, I became a product junkie. I TRIED EVERYTHING! I wanted my hair to look like the person that was suggesting the products. It took awhile but I realized that the products that I was using was targeting every type of hair and therefore, the products would sometimes miss the mark on my type of curl pattern. I wanted a product that targeted type 4 kinky curly hair from Shampoo to Stylers.
What is the motto of curLUXE Naturals? What does your company stand for?
Curl Luxe Kinky curls are high maintenance; that’s why we cater to them. curLUXE Naturals was formulated with moisture-infusing ingredients to soften, moisturize, promote growth, and add shine to beautiful kinky curly hair. curLUXE Naturals is about loving your kinky curly hair texture just the way it is. There’s a saying that states: “ Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” at curLUXE Naturals the motto is: “ Embrace the Shrink and Love the Kink!
What artist most influences you and why?
Curl Luxe The artist that influences me the most is Brandy Norwood. Brandy has been my idol since I was a little girl. She has always been a hardworking, positive role model. Brandy broke down barriers (first black Cinderella) during the peak of her career and I’ve been inspired every step of the way. I remember when I was kid my love for her was so strong that I was only allowed to stay up passed 9 p.m. if she was on TV.
What is the most rewarding part of your career?
Curl Luxe The most rewarding part of my career is reading all of the reviews about my product line and getting feedback from my curLUXE Crew members. So far, I’ve been lucky to work with amazing people that I’ve admired through my own natural hair journey. Sometimes the business success doesn’t feel real; sometimes I pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.
– Is there a least rewarding part?
Curl Luxe There have not been many least rewarding parts to the business but I would have to say backordered ingredients. It slows down production and that doesn’t make me happy at all. I’m very OCD about timeframes, deadlines, and customer service.
Who depends on your success? Who are you doing this for? ((aside from yourself))
Curl Luxe I don’t have any children of my own but my nieces and husband depend on my success. I do this for them. I want to show my nieces that girls can run the world and that it is not just a song by Beyoncé. I want my 3 little nieces to understand that with faith, hard work, and perseverance through all adversity they can live their dreams as well. I don’t want to just tell them that they can be whatever they want to be, I want to SHOW them that they can be whatever they strive to be. As for my husband, I want show my gratitude for his continuous support throughout this journey. He has always inspired and believed in my dreams even when I had doubt. Having a successful business is my way of saying, “Thank you for having my back.”
What’s going to be your legacy?
Curl Luxe My legacy is going to be that I never let adversity stop me from pursuing my dreams and that I was respectful while breaking down obstacles that stood in my way.
What projects do you have coming up? What should we look out for?
Curl Luxe I am currently work on hosting my first annual cupcakes and curls soiree in November in Macon, Ga., Also, as I stated before, I read the reviews and I am working on adding a few things to the line such as hair milk, deep conditioners, and twisting butters so, be sure to signup for our mailing list to find out more information about the release dates.
