Cocotique Review & Unboxing

OVERVIEW: I’m super excited to reviewing this Cocotique April Beauty box… why? Because 1. its a female CEO, and 2. it’s  deluxe beauty box for women of color that wasn’t intimidating. I’m not a really a big makeup person so I was weary that this would be filled with things that I couldn’t use. Each month Cocotique sends out 5-8 products with different samples spanning from nail care, skin care,  makeup, hair care, and lifestyle related.

You can earn COCOhearts which is a reward system that earns you points for referrals, completing surveys, and reviews. With enough COCOhearts you can earn yourself a free box. This box contains products from loads of different brands well known and up and coming so you get a great grasp of various products.

Body N’ Soul Trinity Butta (Full Size $16.80/8 0z)

DSC05868 I used this product during my most recent wash day and I wasn’t a big fan. It is supposed to be used as a styler and help seal in moisture/ boost shine. I think it is the added protein that made me lose interest as it made my hair feel a little stiff/weird. If you have a higher tolerance for protein this product may be more effective for you in your hair regimen. You can get 20% off your order from them using code: COCO4

Shea Moisture Super Fruit Complex 10-in-1- Renewal System Hair Masque & Shampoo

(Full Size 12.99/12oz & 10.99/13oz)

I’m familiar with these products and have used the hair masque frequently. This box consisted of deluxe sample packets but at this point they’d be done in less than one use. This would be great to use for transitioning or for shorter hair. This product is readily available in several drug stores.

Derma E Soothing Moisturizing Creme (Full Size 29.95/ 2oz)

I used one sample packet the other day and was surprised at how well it moisturized my hands. I clearly took too much. One packet is enough to share with 2-3 people for your hands. Also the full size is way way way too expensive for my pockets so I’ll just enjoy these sample packets.

Brazilian Blow Out Brazilian Dry Oil (26.00/ 3.4oz)

I haven’t given this product a try and theres a good chance I wont. I don’t use heat in my hair (its been over 3 years) and this has some ingredients that I don’t use in my hair. So you can expect that this will be in some sort of giveaway or will be sitting on my dresser for quite a bit of time.

Harvey Prince Journey Mini Roller Eau de Parfum ($21/ 8.8ml)

I’m not a fan of this fragrance but it was nice of them to include something to set you off right for a date night or long day at work.

Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara (7.99/ .24 fl oz)

I love this mascara and my fave fiber blast 3d mascara just finished… or reached its expiration date because I never really finish a mascara. This came just in the knick of time! I’m happy they included a beauty product that wasn’t intimidating (I love me some mascara) and that I can actually use on a daily basis.

Nude by Center Stage Cuts Hydrating And Nourishing Deep Conditioner (16.00 / full size)

DSC05874 I love love loved this deep conditioner during my most recent wash day. It smells delicious and made my hair super soft. I also used all of it in one use (so I am sad about that). I never heard about this brand before and was happy to look into them to find that they use ingredients that are actually good for your hair. You can get a 15% discount from their site by using discount code COCONUDE15

FINAL THOUGHTS: The Cocotique box costs 20.00 a month (though you can save a pretty penny by ordering more at a time. 12 months equates to 220.00 saving you 20 bucks). Also what I like is the box doesn’t only come with a box. Most of the time they have great deals with popular magazines. Right now for the May box they are offering a 12 month subscription to Essence with your 12 month subscription. I rate my April box a 3/5. Overall I think this beauty box is certainly worth the money for the samples you get to interact with, but I personally wasn’t able to interact well with 4/7 of the products. Which isn’t terrible because subscription boxes are always a gamble. What I do like is that Cocotique is created for women of color and introduces us to products we may not even know that we love. That’s the beauty in their mission! If you are looking to get your hands on beauty products created specifically for you in mind I suggest signing up for Cocotique and giving it a shot!
