Hello Fresh Subscription Box Review @HelloFresh

OVERVIEW: Hello Fresh is a subscription box that delivers recipes and the ingredients to your door on a weekly basis. Hello Fresh makes it possible for the overall busy person to put a well balanced nutritious and delicious meal on the table for 2-4 people. They deliver ingredients that are to be used on three separate meals in during the week. The box for 2 people costs 69.00 dollars with free shipping, while meals suitable for 4 people will cost 129.00. You can choose when to order it so it is unlike your normal subscription box. If you want a box by the following week you have to place your order by a particular deadline and thats that! The recipes vary in levels but all are very doable (trust me I’m no wizard in the kitchen and it was all laid out simple enough to replicate) and vary. What I often find in the kitchen is it can get boring, but these recipes bring in different proteins and vegetables prepared in various styles that will keep the dinner table interesting. But is the box worth the money? Let’s dive a bit further into my actual experience with the Hello Fresh box i received the week of

Garlic-Lime Chicken w/ Avocado Salsa Verde & Spiced Honey Butter corn

Ingredients sent:

Chicken Breast, Avocado, Jalapeño, Tomatillos, Lime, Garlic, Shallot, Corn, Cilantro, Honey, Butter

The first meal that was sent in the Hello Fresh box was the Garlic Lime chicken. I didn’t end up making this exact meal, but used the ingredients to recreate a different meal for my brothers. The chicken and other ingredients that came in the bag were all fresh and packaged properly so that they wouldn’t get all mushy and disgusting in the bag in transport.

Peruvian Shrimp Ceviche Tacos w/ Pico de Gallo & Avocado

Ingredients sent:

Shrimp, Lemon, Lime, English Cucumber, Red Onion, Jalapeño, Tomato, Avocado, Cilantro, Flour Tortillas

I never made shrimp before so I was a bit nervous making this dish. The recipe was laid out in extreme detail and the step by step set up made it simple for me to recreate. I felt confident in replicating the dish. The only thing I did change up a bit was the way in which the shrimp was

Juicy Lucy Burger w/ Tomato-Red Onion Jam & Charred Romaine

Ingredients sent:

Ground Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Tomato, Red Onion, Balsamic Vinegar, Sugar, Romaine Lettuce, Mayonnaise, Ketchup, Brioche Rolls, Garlic

IMG_0612The final meal that was sent in the Hello Fresh subscription box was something I was more familiar/comfortable with making but was super IMG_0567interested in the recipe beyond the just the burger. This burger recipe required preparation of a sauce to accompany the burger that was intriguing and delicious. I also found the small condiment containers to be simply adorable.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I really enjoyed my Hello Fresh box and was extremely excited to try new recipes that I never tried in the kitchen before. For 69.00 dollars you do get quite a bit of food to make, and the ingredients are fresh. They also come from reputable sources of produce/meat. What I like about Hello Fresh is they also offer a vegetarian option so that you can enjoy the excitement in the kitchen even if you don’t use meat in your cooking. I highly recommend giving the Hello Fresh subscription box a chance for once in a while use. They take care of the food shopping and prevent you from having to worry about what to cook for at least three days out of the week. Because the ingredients are extremely fresh you must use them during the week that you get the delivery. I made the mistake in trying to use the ingredients the following week and some of the ingredients started to go bad. Thankfully it wasn’t anything I couldn’t replace or supplement with the ingredients in my own home. Plan accordingly if you want to give Hello Fresh a chance and be open minded. I rate this box 4/5 as I do wish they offered a 5 day option so you wouldn’t have to cook for the whole week (I’m lazy in the kitchen what can I say).
