FTC: I received a complimentary Laura Mercier Medium Deep Translucent Powder from Influenster for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Who is a fan of ashy flashback when they are taking glamorous pics? Waiting… Yeah didn’t think so. In my new journey in the makeup world I’ve experienced flashback a few times which has made me think that baking just isn’t for me. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, maybe I’m just the wrong complexion for the baking trend, or maybe I’m using the wrong type of powder.
When I started doing some research I heard great things about the Laura Mercier translucent powder. It was a fan favorite on the internet and I had to get my hands on it. I put it into my Sephora basket and let it sit a while (because that is what I do whenever I online shop- helps avoid impulse purchases). Then… Influenster somehow some way connected with my soul and and sent me a complimentary version of the translucent in their new medium deep complexion. Can we say right on time!!
Laura Mercier Medium Deep Translucent Powder Review
So… let’s get into the nitty gritty… Laura Mercier’s medium deep translucent powder is the business. The first moment I put it on… I already knew it was different from the translucent powders that I’ve experienced. It leaves a buttery after effect with a nice sheer glow flawless finish. You do get a nice glow without it being overbearingly bright which usually leads to the ashy/cakey flashback effect. Check the image below as proof! I was so excited I stopped prior to my blending (yes I can see my eye concealer isn’t blended guys… I took the pic) to see how it would hold up against the flash… and it did amazingly !
Since I’ve never used the original translucent powder I can’t honestly comment on the formula, but from the reviews I’ve seen they are reported to be the same. I do still want to get my hands on the original whenever I want that full blown glamour look but the medium deep works well for me for my every day look and my minor glam look.
This medium deep translucent powder will absolutely work as a full time glam for women with a deeper skin tone. For myself it blends in very well so it is not going to give me or women lighter than me that desired full blown glamorous baked glow. Honestly… I don’t even necessarily love that look 99% of the time. Some women do. And if you do the original shade is for you, if you want to mix and match or flip between different looks I suggest getting both.
What I do love about the medium deep shade, is not only can you use it to bake, but you can also use it as an all over setting powder which I did in this look pictured above and below. Besides an all over setting powder that will leave you flawless and matte for long periods of time, it also works as a “primer powder” to lay the foundation before applying your foundation. I don’t necessarily love doing that because it can lead to cakiness if applied improperly, but because this powder is so light, if applied with that great fluffy applicator you should be in luck for an amazing matte look all day. This fun tip works best for women with extremely oily skin or an oily T zone.
Overall I give this powder a thumbs up all the way around have added it to my must replenish list once it runs out. You can also follow our dedicated makeup board on Pinterest for more tips, tricks, and DIY. And now back to work… with my puppy! She too approves of this bomb powder!
