This past Thursday I attended the Macy’s Black History Month Celebration at Macy’s Herald Square. Macy’s has been having Back History Month celebrations all month long, and I definitely feel like the New York Black History Month Celebration was one of the best ones.
The event started at 6:00pm with a live band playing some amazing tracks. What I appreciate about the event the most is that it started ON TIME! I don’t know about you, but the older I get the more I value events that start on time. What I also really loved was the ambiance. Besides the live band, the there were servers keeping the cocktails and appetizers flowing. There were many options to meet most if not all dietary restrictions and beverages to appeal to various preferences.
Laverne came out around 6:15 and spoke on some really difficult yet necessary topics. The questions were straight forward to the point, and she answered with such grace. I was kept in awe for most of the night, and learned so much in just two hours. While I wanted to capture so much more on camera, I caught myself being more caught into the moment, than recording the moment.
I did however get some great sound bites for you from Laverne about who she’d want to be stuck on an elevator with, her experience meeting Cardi B, and more! She then hung out for a bit afterwards and took pictures with all of the guests there (and did it with a smile!). I was so smitten with her, she truly gives off an amazing energy. (Plus she said she loved my sweater and thought I was gorgeous… I love her even more now!)
I love the fact that I was invited, but I also really love that anyone could attend for free with a simple RSVP. I really hope Macy’s continues these Black History Month Celebrations every year to not only celebrate but spread awareness as well.
