Okay ladies were are three weeks into the challenge almost at a full month of hair growth which is generally 1/2 inch to 1 inch if you properly take care of your hair. Remember its not only about growth ladies its also about healthy length retention. You can have all the hair growth in the world but if you aren’t retaining length you will be at a stagnant length and will see no progress. So we attempted the inversion method at the beginning of the challenge. I personally have done the inversion method twice. Once when I removed my protective style in February and did have a full inch of growth equally around my head but had lots of shedding which could’ve been due to the protective style. I am now dealing with minor breakage at the nape of the back of my head so the first month inversion method really helped me cope mentally when I chopped off about an inch of my hair due to damaged ends.
The second time I did the inversion method about two weeks ago I didn’t really see much growth at the front, back, or sides of my head but had a drastic amount of growth at the middle of my head which already grows drastically faster then the rest of my head. I now have a full half foot of hair more at the middle of my head then the front, sides, and back. Which makes for afro wear to become a bit difficult because it looks extremely lop sided unless I was going for the tapered look which I usually am not.
So for this week and the next two months I will be partaking in a scalp massage challenge. This challenge is fairly simple/easy if you have the time and a good memory. I have neither the time or the good memory so I’m going to be using my cell phone alarms to help me remember for the next 60 days. The scalp massage challenge allegedly deems 12 inches in 12 months which would help with the 6 month 6 inches challenge I’ve started for myself. That is however if I and you stick to a positive hair regimen, lay off the heat, and only get trims when needed/necessary. None of this every 6-8 weeks stuff… if you don’t need a trim DONT get a trim!
So how do you do it: The scalp challenge requires twenty minutes of your time a day. The recommend ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes at night with your favorite oil. I’m going to use a healthy blend of either coconut oil, castor oil, or olive oil. However tea tree oil, jojoba, and almond oil can also work in their pure form. Besides oil choices I’ve decided NOT to oil my scalp every day. My hair personally doesn’t do well with an oiling every day as it makes my hair way too greasy and heavy in between wash days. So I’ve decided to only oil 2-3 times a week if needed but to massage on a daily basis.
If your hands get tired (as mine do after like two minutes) there are helpful tools out in the natural hair atmosphere that can make this process easier.
